• FRESH NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN ASSAM AND MIZORAM AFTER MEETING WITH CO-OPERATION MINISTER AMIT SHAH

Regarding the latest intense conflict on the Assam-Mizoram border, the Centre has planned to  use satellite imagery to demarcate the boundaries of Northeastern states to resolve inter-state  border issues. Amit Shah proposed tasking NESAC with mapping inter-state borders and Forests in the Northeastern area, as well as developing a scientific delineation of state borders.

• PM MODI TO BE FIRST INDIAN PRIME MINISTER TO PRESIDE OVER  UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL (UNSC) MEETING

On Sunday, India took over the chair of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) from France for August. This is India’s first presidency as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. For August, India will preside over the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). India will host three high-level signature meetings during its tenure, with an emphasis on maritime security, peacekeeping, and counter-terrorism.

• PV SINDHU WINS BRONZE MEDAL.

PV Sindhu scripted history on Sunday as she defeated He Bing Jiao of China to be the first 
Indian woman to win two individual Olympic medals. In the bronze medal match, Sindhu defeated He Bing Jiao 21-13 and 21-15. Sindhu remained unflappable throughout the match, denying her opponent any chance to win. Sindhu had lost a heartbreaking semi-final match to world number one Tai Tzu Ying on Saturday. Sindhu was defeated 18-21, 12-21 in the semi-final.
• KARNATAKA GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCED TO GIVE Rs 5 LAKH COMPENSATION TO FLOOD HIT FAMILIES.
Basavaraj Bommai, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, said on Sunday that people whose homes were destroyed by landslides and floods in 13 of the state’s 30 districts will receive Rs 5 lakh in compensation whose home has been destroyed by floods and landslides by more than 75%, while those whose homes have been damaged by less than 50% will receive Rs 3 lakh in 
compensation. The affected households will first receive Rs 10,000 in advance assistance.

• GREENLAND ICE MELT COULD COVER FLORIDA WITH 2 INCHES OF WATER

According to Danish government experts who monitor the ice sheet, the Greenland ice sheet suffered a “major melting episode” last week, releasing enough material “to cover Florida with 2 inches (5 cm) of water.” The melting episode on Wednesday was the third-largest single-day loss of ice in Greenland since 1950, according to the researchers, who publish the findings of 
their observation on the online Polar Portal.
 

• EMMA MCKEON WINS THE 7TH MEDAL IN OLYMPICS.

Emma McKeon of Australia completed the sprint double by winning gold in the 50m freestyle and now another medal as gold in the women’s 4×100 medley relay to become the first female swimmer to win seven medals at a single Olympic Games. Four of them were made of gold, while the other three were made of bronze. 

• NO PASSPORT VERIFICATION AND GOVERNMENT JOBS TO STONE PELTER IN JAMMU AND KASHMIR.

The government of Jammu and Kashmir instructed departments on Sunday to refuse security clearance and passport verification to anyone caught participating in law and order or stone-pelting incidents. Digital evidence such as CCTV footage, pictures, videos, and audio clips stored in police security forces and security organizations’ databases should also be referred to.
